Alan Jones Foundation
Supporting the Next Generation of Tennis Talent
About the Foundation:
The Alan Jones Foundation is open to performance tennis players aged between 10 and 18 years old who demonstrate a strong commitment and ambition to pursuing excellence within the sport.
The Foundation has been established to support young athletes who possess the work ethic, dedication, and potential to progress to the top end of the game but may require financial assistance to maximise their development opportunities.
Applicants will be assessed based on a combination of playing level, commitment to development, future potential, and financial need.
How the Foundation Supports Players:
The primary objective of the Alan Jones Foundation is to help reduce some of the financial barriers associated with elite junior tennis and provide meaningful support during a player’s most important developmental years.
Working in partnership with Unique Tennis, the Foundation provides financial assistance towards a player’s full-time programme at the academy. This support further subsidises the academy’s already reduced scholarship fees, helping talented players and their families access one of the country’s leading performance development environments.
In addition, the Foundation contributes towards the costs associated with international competition by helping subsidise coach support expenses at selected tournaments throughout the year. International tournament experience is a vital component of player development, yet the associated travel, accommodation, and coaching costs can place significant financial pressure on players and their families.
By assisting with both programme and tournament expenses, the Foundation aims to ensure that promising young athletes can access the highest quality coaching, training, and competitive opportunities without financial constraints limiting their progress.
Continuing Alan's Legacy:
The Alan Jones Foundation is more than a bursary programme; it is a continuation of Alan Jones’ lifelong commitment to player development.
Throughout his distinguished career, Alan dedicated himself to helping players realise their potential, regardless of circumstance. He believed that talent should be nurtured through exceptional coaching, hard work, dedication, opportunity, and a supportive environment.
One of the most respected and influential coaches in British tennis, Alan was best known for coaching Jo Durie throughout her entire professional career, guiding her to become British Number One, achieve a career high WTA world ranking of No.3 , and compete in more than 60 Grand Slam tournaments. He also worked with over 30 players who went on to compete at Wimbledon, including Jeremy Bates and Elena Baltacha, and served as National Head Coach during his coaching career.
Following a short battle with cancer, Alan sadly passed away in 2024. True to his character and passion for the sport, he continued supporting and developing players throughout his illness, demonstrating the dedication that defined his life and career.
Today, Alan's philosophy continues through Unique Tennis
The academy he helped build and shape over the past twenty years. The coaching team, many of whom were personally mentored by Alan, remain committed to delivering the same high standards, values, and player-centred approach that he championed throughout his life.
Every bursary awarded represents an investment in a young athlete’s future and a commitment to preserving the values that made Alan Jones one of the most respected figures in British tennis.
“Developing players, creating opportunities, and inspiring futures.”
The Alan Jones Foundation is proud to continue Alan’s legacy by supporting the next generation of tennis talent.
