COACH CORNER

ALAN JONES

Unique Tennis has been in existence for around 8 months now and I’m really proud of the team that has been assembled, we have a team that is first class and we are really excited about what the future holds. What has become very clear to both Jo and I as consultants as we wander around watch and observe that from our point of view it’s job done, we are so so proud of how the team works and operates. From the on court training with the tennis coaches to the off court training with the Strength and Conditioning team. The team all work so closely together in order to get the best out of each and every player that walks through our doors. The care and attention that is put in on a daily basis and the atmosphere that is being created is world-class. I could leave my team of coaches from here on and be safe in the knowledge that it will be running like clockwork.

On a slightly more disappointing note we have been aware of individuals not complying to our ethos of hard work, commitment and respecting the game. We are conscious that behavioural issues is about respect, respecting the game, respecting opponents and also the value of trying at all times. We cannot accept people that fail to try. Competing and giving 100% at all times is non-negotiable. Please be aware that 90% of the time we are happy with the actions of our players but in the future there will be consequences if players aren’t behaving in line with our ethos at Unique Tennis. We pride ourselves on not only developing tennis players but developing the person and the character first. Wins and losses are all part of the game, we have never put pressure on players to get results, but we do expect the value of unconditional effort to be there, ALWAYS.

GEORGE LOFFHAGEN

George Loffhagen keeps up his monthly appearance in the Newsletter, as his sublime form continues this year. After 3 weeks of 25K futures events in Nottingham George emerged victorious in the final week, playing some superb tennis to claim the title without dropping a set and amassing revenge on his opponent in the 2nd round of week one Jules Marie of France in the final.

It was then a few weeks of practice on the red stuff before he was off again to play his first competition on clay in nearly 2 years. In his first event of this tournament swing he managed to reach the final in Bodrum, Turkey. An incredible effort adjusting to the surface so quickly and also showing some great resilience and fighting spirit through the week. In particular during his SF in which he saved match points to claim the win 7-6 in the 3rd set in 3hrs 35mins.

Raphael Kuti, Ria Ferguson, Dina Lipovski, Theron Mixides & Hazelwood

Raphael Kuti

Back in April Raphael managed to claim victory in the U14 G3 at long Ashton coming through some tight matches to win the tournament. Nice to see him back on the singles court injury free and getting some good results.

Ria Ferguson

Ria played her first ITF events back in April, playing two J30 events in Gaborone, Botswana 🇧🇼. It was a great experience for her to get a taste of Junior ITF level competition. A superb effort to win several matches in both singles and doubles to get her first ITF points and get her Junior World Ranking.

Theron Mixides

Theron also got his first taste of Junior ITF level competition playing in two J30 ITFs in Cyprus the past couple of weeks. A great learning experience competing abroad in international events. It’s also great to see him enjoying his time on the match court again after overcoming his injuries. Great work Theron!

Dina Lipovski

Dina had a good few weeks playing some ITF competitions in Israel, with her best result coming runner-up in the doubles of a J60.

Team Hazelwood

The Hazelwood junior team has had some good results with all Unique tennis players being used to make up the team. It’s currently 2 wins from 2. Hopefully, the good form can continue and they can go unbeaten this year.

UNIQUE TENNIS APPAREL

You would have seen over the last few months that the Unique tennis Team has been wearing their new branded apparel. We are pleased to say that all Unique players are now able to purchase any items of clothing that they would like with the Unique tennis branding. Please click here to visit the online store where you can order online. We would encourage and support as many of our players to be wearing this clothing as brand awareness for the academy especially when attending and representing Unique Tennis at events. The pricing has been set at a significantly reduced cost to allow it to be more affordable for all players.

NEW PLAYERS

Tuesday is fast becoming a busy day and it’s great to see so many youngsters coming through the door and creating a great atmosphere at Hazelwood. We have three new players attending Unique Tennis this month:
Maia Iordache, Maxwell Sarr & Charleigh Guyatt

Players Leaving

After spending a month or so in the States Zeki Horoz Garner has decided to leave Unique Tennis as he looks to spend more time in America and play more competitions in that part of the world. It was great having Zeki around and we wish him all the best with his tennis as he moves on.

NEW FULL-TIME PLAYER

Alexis Canter
We are all excited about Alexis joining the team at Unique Tennis. He is a great addition to the programme with his enthusiasm and love for the game, great work ethic and desire to improve his tennis. The coaching team are really looking forward to spending more time on the court with him and helping him to achieve his goals.
