What Is an RPDC?
Unique Tennis has been selected to be one of the LTA’s 22 Regional Performance Development Centres (RPDC) throughout the UK.
The Unique Tennis RPDC will give players between the ages of 10-14 years old the opportunity to work with some of the best coaches in the country. The RPDC along with the LTA will give significant financial support to aid in maximising a player’s tennis journey.
To join the Unique Tennis RPDC players must meet the LTA’s Selection Criteria to be placed on the LTA’s RPDC performance pathway list. Players that meet the criteria will be able to apply for our RPDC programme.
Unique Tennis’s RPDC programme has three options for players to choose from:
- Full-Time
- Tier 1
- Tier 2
Full-Time
Academy Programme
Our programme offers a fully integrated, holistic approach to our player’s training. We fully integrate our Tennis with Strength & Conditioning (S&C) to maximise a player’s results on the court.
Our players receive up to two 1.5-hour tennis sessions and two 1-hour S&C sessions each day. A player’s scheduling is bespoke and the expert coaching team will undulate a player’s training loads when it is needed to minimise the risk of injury and overtraining.
Each player will receive a minimum of 1 individual for both Tennis and S&C per week whilst at the academy. Players will be assigned a personal coach for each individual. During a player’s time at the academy, their personal coach could change depending on their stage of development and needs. Our philosophy is to develop competent, self-aware, problem-solving people. Therefore tennis individuals are not at the forefront of our teaching. However, we have a 3:1 player-coach ratio during squads, which ensures the quality of performance training standards is always met and players stick to their goals. In order to maintain the right player-to-coach ratio full-time players are split into two groups based on ability and suitability of training. Unlike conventional academies, we run sessions for 48 weeks of the year. So if you finish a tournament early you will have the chance to work on your game with our coaches.
Tournament Support
During periods of competition, players will have full access to the coaches and the sports science team. The expert team will help to guide players to which tournaments they should be looking to enter. Players are encouraged to enter their own tournaments, which helps them become more accountable for their choices and helps create a dialogue between a coach and a player. Players will also get on-the-road coaching and remote support when a coach is not at a tournament with them. When players are on the road alone at tournaments besides having full access to the coaches for debriefs, reflections, and advice on their next practice. Players will also get a minimum of 10 weeks of tournaments with a coach.
Our full-time and RPDC programme operates for 48 weeks of the year and isn’t just a term-time operation. We believe that offering players the opportunity to train with our expert team more often will promote and cultivate the values needed to maximise their performance. Players on the RPDC will receive individuals and squads for both tennis and strength & conditioning. The RPDC programme also offers players tournament support at selected national and international events throughout the year.
