CELEBRATION OF ALAN JONES
ALAN JONES MEMORIAL BBQ – Unique Tennis BBQ on Friday 13th September
As previously mentioned we will be holding a BBQ to celebrate Alan Jones, a life well lived. This will take place at the start of the new academy year on Friday the 13th of September. This will start after the second afternoon session from around 4:30 onwards. Everyone is welcome to attend and it will be great if we can get a large attendance so we can share stories and reminisce on the good times shared.
If you can please let us know if you are going to attend this would be great. If we have a rough idea of numbers we can make sure we get the appropriate amount of food & drink for the afternoon/evening. As well as the BBQ there is a tree being planted at the club in Alan’s memory.
COACHING CORNER
NATALIA ILKOW
Regional Performance Coach of the Year
Congratulations to Natalia Ilkow who has been awarded the regional performance coach of the year award to go alongside her middlesex performance coach of the year, awarded to her earlier in the year.
All the county winners from the south east region then get votes to determine the regional winner and Natalia ended up victorious from all the nominees.
She was presented with her award during the WTA & ATP events at Devonshire gardens in Eastbourne.
UNIQUE TENNIS PRESENTATIONS
Various presentations in the new year
During the new academy year we will be delivering a few presentations around a variety of different topics, throughout the year.
Jo Durie will be talking to the players about “the journey” to her career high 5 in the world ranking. We have done presentations around nutrition, hydration among others in the past and we believe it will be beneficial to the players to introduce these again.
These will be open to both parents and players. If there is any topics in which any players or parents would be particularly interested in or consider beneficial in us doing a presentation on then please let us know, any suggestions are welcome.
Players Results
GEORGE LOFFHAGEN
After a long spell out of competition, rehabbing injuries, George has been back competing in recent weeks. With the most recent two weeks of tournaments being held at Nottingham tennis centre.
The first week sadly saw George have to retire after suffering back spasms at a set up and 1-1 in the 2nd. This quickly settled and the following week George put in a strong performance to reach the final of the 25k, doing this without dropping a set on route to the final.
He came up against a strong Aussie opponent who proved too good on the day. After a week rest from competition it was then the 25K at Roehampton. After playing 5 very competitive matches, George won the tournament this time round 🏆 .
All done without dropping a set the whole week. A nice reward for all the hard work he’s put in over recent months. The final was against the 5th seed Viktor Durasovic who also made the final without dropping a set. The score in the final was 6-4, 6-3.
Well done George and good luck in the upcoming tournaments.
Ajax has had a very busy summer of competition. Great to get so many matches under his belt for experience and to learn from.

SOCIAL MEDIA
There has been an improvement on this over the past month, please keep up the good work as this really helps with our Social Media content!
The use of social media is a great marketing tool, in particular for the younger generation, so we would really encourage all our players whenever they use social media, Instagram, Facebook, X (twitter) etc to please tag us in your tennis related posts. Whether that be tournament results/ achievements, videos of training, a day out at a tournament etc to tag Unique Tennis in any of these tennis related posts. We can then easily share them and it’s great way of gaining exposure for the academy.
